Last week, Marty Gersey, IUSB Director of Safety and Security, stopped in to speak further on the cubbyhole and security situation in the bookstore.
“From a security standpoint, security for the bookstore is considered as an auxiliary and if Jeff Dunwoody wanted security posted at the bookstore he’d have to buy it,” said Gersey. “For a part time security staff employee it could cost anywhere from $8.50 to $9.85.”
Gersey expressed interest in meeting with Dunwoody to discuss senator suggestions to move the cubbyholes to a safer location.
Jennifer Hlawacz, representing Students for Common Sense, requested $200 to show “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore’s global warming documentary, November 1st in Wiekamp 1001 at 7p.m. The club, who raised most of the needed funds on their own, was approved on this amount in a 10-0 vote.
Ryan Hill, representing IUSB College Democrats, requested $205 to host the reception following Joe Donnelly’s campus visit on October 26th in the Grille at 7p.m. The amount was approved in an 8-1 vote with one abstention.
Kim Muncie, representing IUSB College Republicans, requested $150 for Chris Chocola’s campus visit on October 24th in Wiekamp 1001 at 5p.m. The amount was approved in a 9-0 vote with one abstention.
Both Donnelly and Chocola will be fielding questions from students and faculty. This is a great opportunity to voice your opinion before the elections. These are not debates.
In a 9-1 vote Colleen Verduin was appointed as the new Director of Academic Senate.
The SGA, in a 10-0 vote, approved an addition to the Club Council constitution that gives the SGA President power to create a liaison (intermediary between Club Council and the SGA).
A Senate Research Service bylaw that would’ve provided assistance for senators regarding research loads was disapproved in a 0-7 vote with three abstentions.
Five committees where formed in the SGA last week.
A three member committee was approved to look into all professors submitting midterm grades that will keep students up to date with class progress. The committee results will then go to Chancellor Reck and Enrollment Management.
A three member committee was approved to review funding request forms with the premise that proposals over $1,000 should be tabled for at least a week and thought over before calling to vote.
To address a concern that not all clubs are receiving a fair opportunity to acquire bulletin board space a four member committee was approved.
A three member committee that deals with electronic channels of communication with fellow students and electronic polling was approved.
Finally, a three member committee was approved to discuss the role of club advisors.
